And the Training Continues!

Kahurangi explore catapults and scales

On Tuesday Year 5/6 Epro8 Challenge Teams explored some practice challenges in preparation for the competition in a fortnight's time.  The students were able to explore the challenge formats, looking at the success criteria, the hints, and the background information.  This is all similar to what will be given to them at the event.

Then the students had fun working with 'poor man's' equipment to create their structures....

Their observations:

Mrs Zhou:  'What do you think you could do to make this free standing?'
Maddi:  'Use a tripod'
Mrs Zhou: 'How would you position your tripod so it gave the right trajectory and supported it?'
Ari:  'It could be the shape of a triangle'
Maddi: 'A pyramid'
Mrs Zhou: 'Why would you pick a pyramid?'
Greta: 'Because its free standing and its very strong.'

Mrs Zhou:  'Why do you think that yours was able to succeed where the other design didn't?'
Caleb: 'It was nice and cubed which made it be able to have more room to launch down and we had   something to hold the ping pong ball'
Hunter: 'and the way they had their rubber bands meant they didn't go back very much.'
Mrs Zhou: 'So the way you attached your bands was stretchier?'
Hunter:' Yes so it went further.'
